Junior Program Class Description
Commodores in Training: Ages 5-7                          
JR. DOWNLOADS
  • For our younger yacht club members.
  • Class will emphasize safety on the water and on the docks
  • while introducing them to the exciting world of sailing fun!
  • Children must be 5 years old as of 1/1/08

Beginner & Advanced Beginners Ages 8-11

  • For the 1st & 2nd year Beginner.
  • Emphasizes safety, the basics of boat handling and sailing skills.
  • Curriculum conducive to having fun and making friends.
  • Instruction builds upon and expands previously learned sailing skills.

420/Laser Racing: Ages 14-18

  • Emphasizes racing tactics, team racing and sportsmanship.
  • Regatta participation in events both on and beyond Narragansett Bay.
  • Some club 420’s are available, privately owned boats are recommended.
  • Racing classes run nine weeks.

Advanced Sailing: Ages 13-18

  • (13 yrs old or entering 8th grade, minimum)
  • 5ft tall – girls weight 100 pounds/boys weight 120 pounds.
  • Taught 420s & Lasers.
  • Emphasizes seamanship and highest level of boat handling proficiency.
  • Intermediate sailing skills required.
  • Runs 8 weeks (Session 1 &2)

Hunter 140: Ages: 11 – 15

  • For the junior who enjoys sailing, but is not interested in competitive racing this summer.
  • Emphasize seamanship, cruising and sailing skills using a mainsail and a jib.
  • Sailors will enjoy making friends, as boat comfortably accommodates 3 sailors.

Big Boat Sailing - Keelboat: Ages 14 – 18

  • Experience the thrill of steering, trimming and handling a bigger keelboat.
  • Try all positions (bow, mast, pit, trim, steering, navigate).
  • By program’s end, the team will be racing around the buoys in Jamestown Tuesday Night series. .
