2023 ILYC ADULT SAILING PROGRAM

Calling all ILYC members, whether advanced sailors or novices, to participate in another great season of camaraderie & sailing. The goal is to have fun while providing basic sailing instruction, including but not limited to, an understanding of the fundamental rules of sailing & racing.

After coming in from sailing we will have time for debriefing, time at the bar, and a light dinner which we will all take turns providing. We plan to meet weekly whether or not conditions make it possible to go out on the water. On “bad weather days” we will plan alternate activities such as learning to read charts, discussing sail trim, practicing knot tying, or watching sailing videos.

Members with experience on the water are encouraged to participate as volunteer instructors; it is hoped that we can provide a volunteer instructor for each boat. Volunteer instructors will not be charged the registration fee and must be comfortable in a teaching role.  If interested in volunteering please print and complete the following two forms:  Complete the Waiver of Liability and print and complete the Adult Sailing Volunteer Application.

NOTE:  Current volunteers MUST complete the Waiver of Liability, but do not need to complete the Volunteer Application.

Please register ASAP as this program fills up fast. Members have priority until April 30. All registration forms should be received by May 28.

  • Monday evenings from June 5 thru August 28
  • Meet at ILYC by 5:15 for a 5:30 launch to Sail Newport
  • Cost: $200 for members; $375 for those in the ILYC candidate pool or immediate family members.  Please note that spots in this program will not be secured until Waiver of Liability and payment are received. 
  • All participants must provide a PFD 
  • Primarily sailing on Sail Newport’s fleet of J 22's. All participants are urged to be “checked out” by a Sail Newport staff member as soon as they feel comfortable to do so.

      Mondays, June 3rd - August 26th

      You will need to do the following to register: 

      • Click on the registration link below
      • Answer all questions on the Event Registration page and click on the 'Save Registration' button at the bottom of the event page to complete your registration.
      • Complete the Waiver of Liability form
      • Pay for your class as indicated on the Registration form:  Bill to Members Account, Mail check, Call the ILYC Office (401-846-1969 x2) and provide your credit card information.

      Please note that spots in this program will not be secured until Waiver of Liability and payment are received.
